Boys & Girls Clubs of the Portland Metropolitan Area kỷ niệm 10 năm hợp tác với CareOregon, hé lộ những định hướng mới cho CareOregon Boys & Girls Club tại Rockwood

Apr 6, 2022, 07:00 AM

(PORTLAND, Ore.) April 6, 2022—Last week, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area and CareOregon hosted a community celebration to commemorate their new partnership at the CareOregon Boys & Girls Club at Rockwood and unveil new signage.

The celebration brought together community leaders and partners who are invested in the future of the Rockwood community, including elected officials, community-based organizations, staff from both CareOregon and Boys & Girls Club of the Portland Metropolitan Area, and families served at the CareOregon Club.

"This partnership will result in more resources for the families we serve," said Terry Johnson, Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area CEO. "It will increase our capacity to serve kids, connect them with new opportunities such as internships, and connect families to healthcare resources. This is a momentous occasion, and we are excited to welcome CareOregon to the Boys & Girls Club family."

More than 70 people attended the celebration on Thursday, March 31. The event included time for community leaders and partners to speak to the history of the Rockwood site, their involvement in bringing it to fruition in 2017, and the vision for the future of the Club with CareOregon as a new key partner.

"For CareOregon, this is about more than writing a check or putting up some new signs," said Jeremiah Rigsby, Chief of Staff at CareOregon. "This is about creating a deep and lasting partnership with the Boys & Girls Club and all the campus partners to be in service to the Rockwood community. There is a higher percentage of folks who live in the zip codes surrounding this Club that qualify for the Oregon Health Plan than anywhere else in the state. As an organization dedicated to serving OHP members, this partnership is a chance to work upstream and make sure that the community is as strong as possible so our members can be as strong as possible. It is a true honor to join the Rockwood campus partners. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to work alongside you."

The event agenda included remarks from CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Terry Johnson, BGCP VP of Programs Lowena Kahana, Multnomah County Commissioner Lori Stegman, a representative from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden’s office, Reynolds School District School Board Chair Ana Munoz, BGCP Board Vice Chair Anne Turchi, Chief of Staff of CareOregon Jeremiah Rigsby, CareOregon Board of Directors Chair Damien Hall, and each of the Rockwood campus partners—Latino Network, Open School, New Avenues for Youth, and The Holla School, which will open at the CareOregon Boys & Girls Club this fall.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area and CareOregon have worked to together for years, most recently partnering on youth vaccination clinics to increase access to the COVID-19 vaccines for BIPOC youth in our community.

The Rockwood Club was built in 2017, as part of a larger community investment in this region of the city. The Club sits on a campus at SE 165th and SE Stark alongside other community-based organizations that serve area youth, including Open School, New Avenues for Youth, and Latino Network.
